As most Scramblers are aware by now, our dear friend and lifetime fellow Scrambler member Dr. Curt Gonstead passed away early this year after a long and valiant battle with cancer. We plan to celebrate his life by gathering to share some of our favorite memories of Curt, and by riding/ driving some of his favorite twisty roads in southwestern Wisconsin. Feel free to attend riding a motorcycle or driving your favorite sporty car.
Saturday, June 13
We plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. at “Windsong,” the home of Marleen and Curt Gonstead. The address is 4719 East Needham Road in Beloit, WI. Light refreshments will be served in his car/motorcycle museum next to the house. Bring some of your favorite Curt memories and stories to share. Emergency phone number there is 608-362-9396.
For those who wish to make this pilgrimage with the family members, we will drive/ride to visit Curt’s final resting place at the Gonstead family plot in Monroe, Wisconsin. We will then be meeting with the remainder of the group for lunch about 1:30-2:00 pm at Baumgartner’s Cheese Store and Tavern on the Square in Monroe, (1023 16th Ave.) The phone number there is 608-325-6157. Route sheets/maps will be provided for either option.
We will spend the remainder of the afternoon riding on more of Curt’s favorite roads. He organized many sports car and sport motorbike events over the years using these “Driftless Wisconsin” roads. Our destination for the night will be at the Quality Inn, 1345 Business Park Rd. in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. A block of rooms has been reserved until May 1st under the name “Streeterville Scramblers.” The phone number there is 608-987-4747.
Sunday, June 14
We will return home via still more of Curt’s favorite twisties.
Feel free to join us for any or all of these activities. Please R.S.V.P. Kathy Young to let us know if you are attending.
